Our story
Why a badger?
A badger is a thorough animal. When a badger digs, it keeps digging until it gets to the bottom of things. We admire that.
What we make
Books that are meant to be read
Golden Badger Books makes small, sturdy picture books about the things grown-ups often wish they had learned sooner.
Our stories are short. Our sentences are plain. We put the important parts where you can find them, and we use the same size of type from the first page to the last.
We ask only that you read all of it.
The Golden Badger promise
- Every book has a beginning, a middle and an end. All three count.
- The LARGE WORDS and the small words are equally true.
- Nothing important is left out. It may, however, be on a later page.
- A book placed on a shelf has not yet been read.
In the burrow
How a Golden Badger book is made
We write it
Slowly, and in plain words.
We read it
All of it, from the front.
We read it again
This time with a magnifying glass.
A note for grown-ups
Reading together
Children notice when a page is skipped. We encourage you to read slowly, to point at the words as you go, and to stop when something is not clear.
If a little one asks what a word means, that is a good sign. If a grown-up asks, that is a good sign too.
